The Onslow Water and Sewer Authority (ONWASA) is a joint utility company founded in 2000 to tap into excess wastewater treatment plant capacity at the Marine Corps’ Camp Lejeune, N.C., treatment plant. The authority serves unincorporated Onslow County, N.C., and the towns of Holly Ridge, North Topsail Beach, Swansboro and Richlands, as well as parts of Jacksonville.

By September 2010, the town of Cave Creek, Ariz., will be able to fully meet its wastewater treatment needs when it completes a $25 million sanitary sewer system expansion project. The project includes a new .75 million gallon per day (MGD) water reclamation facility (WRF), five miles of sewer pipeline, five miles of effluent reuse pipeline and demolition of the town’s existing water reclamation plant.

Self-reliance is not frowned upon at Western Water Constructors Inc. Instead, the company’s ability to do things on its own has enabled more efficiency in its work, Vice President and Chief Estimator Josh McGarva says. For instance, generating its own project management software has allowed Western Water to have very little paper documentation on its project sites, he says.
