Atkinson Power

Atkinson Power may be a new player in the power line services market, but that doesn’t mean the company is starting from scratch. Atkinson Power is a division of Guy F. Atkinson Construction, which has been building successful projects in the public and private sectors since 1926. Additionally, Guy F. Atkinson Construction is itself a subsidiary of Clark Construction Group, one of the largest construction firms in the United States. Atkinson Power says it leverages the connections it has with its experienced parent companies while building on the legacy they have for quality construction by branching out into power infrastructure work.

“Whether building a project from the ground up or performing energized or de-energized maintenance on existing power lines, Atkinson Power relies upon the industry experience and know-how of its staff to deliver any project safely and efficiently,” the company says.

Specializing in providing services to transmission customers, Atkinson Power says it has the experience in-house to provide top-notch services in a variety of situations. “Atkinson Power provides a full range of power line services for new construction, replacement and general maintenance in both energized and de-energized environments,” the company says. “Led by a team of industry veterans, we provide bid-build and EPC services in all areas of transmission, distribution, substation and renewable energy projects, meeting the needs for utilities, cooperatives and private developers throughout the Western United States.”

Fully Experienced

That kind of expertise doesn’t just come about overnight, and Atkinson Power says the history of its parent companies plays a large part in giving it the knowledge base it needs to serve its customers. As Guy F. Atkinson Construction explains, the firm’s long history of heavy civil projects has given it a huge advantage over other contractors. “An important distinction between Atkinson and other firms is our knowledge of, and experience in, the construction of highly engineered and complex heavy civil projects,” the company says. “We have built more than 50 major bridges since 1946, more than 80 of the world’s largest dams, excavated some of the country’s most complex mine shafts, and have constructed or expanded some of the most-traveled roadways within the western United States.”

That experience is combined with Clark Construction Group, Atkinson’s parent company and a constant presence in the construction industry since 1906. “Clark Construction Group is one of the most experienced and respected building and civil construction firms in the United States,” the company says. “For over a century, we have been transforming the ideas and visions of our clients into award-winning projects. We build with the intention of exceeding our clients’ expectations for safety, quality, functionality and aesthetics, and deliver finished products that stand the test of time.”

“Together, Atkinson and Clark provide clients with a comprehensive range of project development services tailored to meet – or exceed – our customers’ expectations for quality and cost-effectiveness,” Atkinson says.

Safety First

Safety is paramount in Atkinson Power’s work, and the safety culture that has been established throughout Guy F. Atkinson Construction helps contribute to an environment in which work is completed as safely as possible. The company says it works hard to ensure that every employee at every level on every job site understands the responsibility they have to creating a safe working environment.

“We know that safety excellence requires total buy-in from every member of the organization,” according to the company. “Our commitment to safety starts at the top with our senor leaders, and its effects can be seen throughout the company. In fact, it is instilled in our employees literally from day one – our new-hire orientation includes an extensive safety training component. Supervisor training programs and continuous improvement teams also reinforce safety concepts and procedures, helping to perpetuate our culture of safety.

“We realize that ensuring safety on our project sites is a never-ending task,” the company continues. “No matter what a project’s size or complexity, we work together to identify risks, prevent injuries and achieve our goal of returning everyone home safely at the end of each work day. We require this same commitment to safety from each of our project partners.”

Giving Back

Atkinson Power also follows its parent company’s lead when it comes to community commitment, as well. “Our giving extends beyond simple checkbook philanthropy: we believe that the deed is just as important as the dollar,” the company says. “Our volunteer work, fundraising and pro bono efforts reflect the diverse interests of our employees and clients. We mentor students and veterans, participate in educational programs for local youth, serve food at soup kitchens and raise money for causes by participating in runs, walks and cycling events.

“At Atkinson, giving back to the community is an integral part of our corporate culture,” the company continues. “Both as a company and as individual employees within every level of the organization, we are committed to creating meaningful change in the communities we serve.”
